Isabelle’s favorite television show is Sarah & Duck! Quack! She has loved this show since it aired back in 2013 (in the US)! If you are a parent or grandparent of small children, you know all the kid’s tv shows, characters, theme songs, and stories. We love Sarah & Duck- the creativity and problem-solving.
I asked her about four or five months ago, what kind of birthday party she wanted, she said: “I want a Sarah & Duck Party.” You might be thinking 4 or 5 months ago? Seriously the time goes by quick as a mom of two and I am in grad school. Since then, she has told everyone, and I mean everyone about her party. We are talking about the cashiers at the grocery store, church, MOPs, servers at restaurants, and heck random people in the bathroom.
Well, I looked online for inspiration and found nothing! What was I going to do! I found toys of Sarah & Duck, but she honestly has enough toys. I found that CBeebies Magazine, from the UK, made a Sarah & Duck edition with the Same Bread card game and figures of Sarah and Duck. I went onto the UK site of eBay and found it! I emailed the seller if they would ship to the US and saying that I had no problem paying for the shipping and they said “Yes!”. I was so happy! The figures of Sarah & Duck would be for her cake as I wasn’t going to try to make little figures out of gum paste or fondant…time consuming and money.
Then Sarah & Duck went to Twitter stating that they just made a duvet cover and pillowcase. I told my husband about it, and he said that this would be her birthday gift. I found a company that shipped to the US and bought one for her, right before they sold out! Now you know the months of planning!
SAME BREAD CARD GAME
After I received the magazine from the eBay seller in the UK, I quickly opened it up and saw the Same Bread Card Game was very small. I went to Staples to have them enlarged, laminated, and copied so that I would have 40 cards instead of 20. IF you don’t know same bread-its kinda like slapjack (watch the episode of “The Big Sleepover”).
Some of our favorite episodes from Sarah & Duck is called “Fireworks Dance” and “Stargazing.” I bought a few rolls of blue wrapping paper and hung up the sheets using blue painter’s tape. After the paper was hung, I painted “The Dozing Donkey” and wrote out Happy Birthday Isabelle using white paint. From Gabriella’s Magic Kingdom Birthday Party I saved the tinsel pipe cleaners fireworks. For Moon, I bought this white paper lantern (affiliate link), and I drew on his eyes, mouth, and arms using a black marker. Sarah also has some shallot friends simply called the Shallots (say it with a British accent)- I bought four shallots and drew their faces on with a black marker.
For the buffet table, I used a roll of brown paper and a plastic green tablecloth as the backdrop. Since we were serving various meats and cheeses, I wrote directly on the paper and labeled all the different foods.
For the cake table, I used a cake pedestal to elevate her cake and fluffed and an ivory plastic tablecloth around it.
Since Sarah & Duck is a kids tv show, we download 2 hours of it and continuously played it in the living room so everyone could see the show (Thanks, Mom and Dad).
- Black Forest Ham
- Roasted Turkey
- Obatzer (Bavarian Cheese Spread)
Italian Garden Vegetable Quinoa Salad
Macaroni and Cheese
- Lemon Water (Lemonade) -this is Sarah’s favorite drink
Isabelle asked for a lemon poppyseed cake, and I added a raspberry cream cheese buttercream to top it all off. Sarah & Duck go to the park just about every day, hence the pond. They also have Rainbow that will sometimes appear on the show. This small rainbow is a small piñata I found a Target for only $3!!!
Isabelle loved her party! As I was getting things ready that day and the day before, she kept saying thank you to me and “This is the best birthday ever! Thank you, Mama, I love it!” It melts my heart every time- these are special MOMents and times.
Thanks for joining us!
